External GPU : ROG XG Station 2 or MiniPC ?

Hi,

I'm working on laptop mainly for mobility issue as I'm constantly travelling around the world.
I'd like some more juice, right now I'm having a laptop with a GTX1070 mobile and I'd like to upgrade with a GTX1080Ti
Does anyone tried the Rog XG Station 2 from asus ? How good does it perform for render ? Seamless ?
Also, I'm also thinking about a mini-pc but I have no knowledge about building PC, any recommendation ? Possible to get a SLI GTX1080 in a micro or mini pc ?

Any help will be apprecited.
